Who Were the Pacific Commandos?
The Pacific Commandos were an elite, multicultural Allied unit of World War II that brought together brave volunteers from New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga, and the Solomon Islands for jungle warfare operations. Serving honourably behind enemy lines from 1942 to 1944, this dedicated force provided vital intelligence and crucial combat support to U.S. forces, leaving behind a profound legacy of courage, cooperation, and sacrifice in the Pacific.
Operating in small, highly mobile units, they demonstrated extraordinary courage, resourcefulness, and endurance. Their actions disrupted enemy supply lines, liberated prisoners, and saved countless lives — often far behind enemy lines and without hope of reinforcement.
Today, the Pacific Commandos Commemoration Committee works to ensure their stories are never forgotten — honouring their service through events, education, and community remembrance.
